DSG & DCT TRANSMISSIONS

LET US TAKE CARE OF YOUR DSG & DCT TRANSMISSIONS

What is DSG or DCT ?

DSG means “Direct Shift Gearbox” first introduced by the Volkswagen Audi Group.
DCT means “Double Clutch Transmission” adopted by many other car manufacturers.
Both DSG & DCT work on exactly the same principles: both have 2 clutches, both have 2 output shafts, both are controlled by Electro, hydraulic & mechanical controls (mechatronics).

Advantages: lighter gearbox with no torque converter resulting in faster gear changes and impressive fuel consumption.
Disadvantages: can be expensive to repair, components are expensive, only trained engineers with the correct tooling & diagnostic equipment can accurately diagnose and repair these complex units.

At West Coast Transmissions we are trained in repairing these transmissions so you can be rest assured that you're in capable hands. We have the full range of required tools and experience to handle any issues with your DSG & DCT transmission.

Ford Powershift

The video shows the Ford Powershift system, developed by Getrag for front-wheel-drive vehicles and formerly used in certain Volvo models (S40/V50). First, you can see the two input shafts, placed coaxially, the two other, connected shafts with the even and odd number gear sets, the enclosed differential gear, the reverse gear, and the shaft lock for park (P). Next up there are the coupling forks with the slave cylinders, the housing, then the control unit containing the position senders and the electromagnetic valves. After these are assembled there is the double clutch looking like a flying saucer. The gearbox shifts through all the gears, and before the end of the video you can take a look inside the multi-plate clutch structures.
